Jacob Collins show opening tomorrow

Jacob Collins has a new show of recent landscape paintings opening at Meredith & Long Co. Gallery in Houston Texas on Thursday 11/19 (tomorrow). Below are a few paintings that are included in the show, I don't have dimensions for these but I know that some of them are around 4 feet wide. They're all oil paintings and there are 25 paintings in the show. Among these images are 3 variations on the view of the Hudson River and a view from the top of Katterskill falls that Jacob gathered studies for last summer on the Hudson River Fellowship.

NEW ECORCHE CLASS AT NIGHT!

Instructor: Mason Sullivan

Where: GCA Sculpture Atelier

When: Thursdays, 6:30 - 9:30pm

$600 (16 classes, January - April)

Students will first sculpt the skeleton, and study the underlying proportions of the human body. Then students will study the deep origins of the rhythmic qualities present in the body by adding successive layers of muscle to half of the sculpture. The sculpture concludes with the most superficial muscles creating the forms we are used to seeing every day. Along the way, students will complete drawings of the individual muscles and bones to solidify their knowledge.

At the end of the class, participants will have gained an expanded knowledge of anatomy in three dimensions, a notebook full of drawings and handouts for future reference, a completed ecorche sculpture, and most importantly, a system of study to fuel the student's future interest in the subject.

This class is open to the public

ARC Scholarship Awards

The Art Renewal Center just announced the winners of their Scholarship awards, which go to students at ARC approved ateliers around the world to help them continue their studies. $30,000 in prizes were awarded to students this year! J.W. Waterhouse (1849-1917): Reassessing a "Modern Pre-Raphaelite"

We're looking forward to a lecture this coming Tuesday by Peter Trippi discussing the Victorian academician J.W. Waterhouse (1849-1917) and what he has learned while organizing Waterhouse's international touring retrospective, now on view at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts through February 7.
