Show Opening at Ettinger Gallery

The fourteenth annual Figure in American Art Exhibition will open at the Eleanor Ettinger Gallery on Thursday 1/13. Included in this show are GCA instructors Travis Schlaht and Richard Piloco, and GCA alum Hyeseung Marriage-Song. Please note the gallery is now located on 57th St. See you there!

Travis Schlaht studio tour


The other day Travis Schlaht gave us a little tour of his studio and showed us what he's been working on lately. He and Tony Curanaj share an amazing space that has huge skylights. Tony couldn't be there yesterday because he's in Croatia, but I hope that we can go back another time to see his work. Here are a few photos from our visit with Travis:






I didn't take any photos of his bigger projects but here are a few little studies I couldn't resist.


I fell in love with this winter scene, it's about 14 x 11 inches.


Travis has some pretty cool still life props, including 3 or 4 taxidermy pieces.

Beardsley Gallery still life show

"Objects of Art" will be at the Beardsley Gallery in Wilton, CT from April 27 - May 29. Reception is May 8 from 4-6pm

This group show includes work by these artists from the Water Street Atelier / Grand Central Academy community: Camie Davis, Juliette Aristides, Colleen Barry, Kate Lehman, and Travis Schlaht.

Self Portrait show at Ettinger Gallery

The Eleanor Ettinger Gallery in New York City has a show of self portraits up right now (the show runs from April 1 - May 2) Included in the show are GCA instructors Travis Schlaht, John Morra, and Richard Piloco. Also represented is GCA alum Hyeseung Marriage-Song.

American Painting Video Magazine


This is the trailer for Michael Klein's new American Painting Video Magazine. For $10 you can download over two hours of content that includes a still life painting demo with Travis Schlaht and an interview with Jacob Collins. This is a fairly new project but it has recieved some great reviews on facebook from people who have watched the first issue. Michael Klein and Travis Schlaht both studied with Jacob Collins at the Water Street Atelier and now teach at GCA.

Portrait demo by Travis Schlaht

Travis Schlaht did this small portrait demo last night in his class. The model posed for 3 hours. Travis Schlaht teaches evening figure drawing classes with Edward Minoff that meet every night from 6:30-9:30.

Figure show at John Pence

Coming up at the John Pence Gallery in San Francisco is "The Human Figure" running from 2/26 - 4/10. This group show includes several former students of the Water Street Atelier (before it merged with the GCA last year) including current GCA instructors Edward Minoff, Tony Curanaj, Sam Wisneski, Jacob Collins, Nicholas Hiltner, John deMartin, and Travis Schlaht.
