Jeffrey Mims reports from Rome

Last year Jeffrey Mims won the Alma Schapiro Prize to spend three months at the American Academy in Rome. He has recently posted some reports from his experience on his blog with some photos. Mims' focus while in Rome is to make "studies from Roman collections of sculpture and fresco painting - with a particular focus on how these works were designed for the spaces that they decorate". Jeffrey Mims is the director of Mims studios in Southern Pines, NC and has been influential in the revival of classical art for over twenty years.

The Alma Schapiro Prize is offered by the Institute of Classical Architecture and Classical America every other year to advance the career of an artist recipient and to foster the continuity of knowledge of the classical tradition as a vital aspect of contemporary culture around the globe.
