Spring Workshop: Introduction to Cast Drawing

The upcoming spring workshop "Introduction to Cast Drawing" (March 28-30), taught by Devin Cecil-Wishing, will be a great opportunity for any interested person to get a grasp on the fundamentals of the GCA method.
If you are curious about the ideas and methods employed at the school, this will be a quick but rigorous examination of how to make a successful cast drawing. Each day will begin with a short demonstration/lecture which will explore one of the facets of the cast drawing method, after which students will draw their own cast and receive personalized critiques from Mr. Cecil-Wishing.

"We will start by covering the basics of how to approach an initial linear drawing, or “block-in”, focusing on the various techniques that we can employ as we strive for accuracy in shape, proportion and gesture.   We will then move straight in to modeling form three dimensionally, as we discuss the fundamentals and nuances of how light works as well as how to depict it on a two dimensional surface.  During this time students will learn to think about their drawings in sculptural terms by utilizing a conceptual model of light fall which will allow for a greater sense of depth in their finished drawings"

"Suggested Donation" - New Podcast Series from GCA Instructors

Today is the official roll out of the new podcast series "Suggested Donation", a project sprung from the minds of GCA core instructors Edward Minoff and Tony Curanaj. In their own words -

Suggested Donation is a podcast devoted to the arts in all forms. Hosted by two contemporary painters, the conversations provide an insight into the creative mind. By speaking with both traditional and non-traditional artists and craftsmen, curators and restorers, we create a dialog through which we discover common ground across disciplines and spaces united by a love of and deep devotion to skill. We aim to alter the very landscape of the contemporary art world one conversation at a time. Our first podcast features a conversation between Edward Minoff and Tony Curanaj in which we introduce ourselves and our podcast, and discuss our sordid past.

Their first episode is now online and available through download and subscription on iTunes, or through their website http://www.suggesteddonationpodcast.com. Tony and Ted are both charismatic and witty speakers, and this series is sure to be an entertaining, educational and inspiring listen for anyone interested in the creative mind. New episodes will continue to be released periodically, so if you enjoyed this piece, please subscribe to the podcast channel to not miss the next update.
